There’s a beast in the east and he goes by the name of NorthSideBenji. By far one of the most talented artists coming out of Toronto, Benji has been on everybody’s radar since dropping his incredible debut project Caviar Dreams earlier this year. Benji recently dropped Frienemy a quick 5-track EP that wastes no time in delivering hit after hit, each song brings a very different feel all while staying true to the Toronto artist’s distinct sound. NorthSideBenji has taken influences from the music in his city and beyond to create something that is ready for the world stage, he recently bodied his second appearance on Fire In The Booth in the UK. Just don’t be surprised when his name becomes recognized internationally.

One thing that should be made clear is that NorthSideBenji is not your average melodic rapper. Each track on Frienemy is a sample size of the type of energy he brings to each beat, he naturally just rides the pocket and makes any beat sound like it was tailor-made for his vocal talents. The title track “Frienemy” sets the tone for the rest of the project, a song that has Benji fed up with the people in his circle and complemented with an incredibly smooth hook that is sure to get stuck in your head. It’s hard to say that any of these songs really stand out over others, as the EP is able to be put on repeat and keep listeners engaged with the quality of music from track to track. Go check out Frienemy on all platforms, it’s definitely worth your time.
