Vancouver had a beautiful music moment last weekend. In one of the city’s largest opportunities to showcase the promising musical talents in the area, the first official BREAKOUT Festival kicked-off last Saturday at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition) Playland in Van City. Not only was Canada’s rowdiest of music markets in full-force for the event, the 2-day fest that was jam-packed with performances had a number of local artists on the ticket that kicked off with WITHINROOTS, Mcevoy, Manila Grey & BREVNER on opening day before 2Hunnit, DaamCP, ACDATYOUNGNI**A and ILLYMINIACHI blessed the stage on day 2. While also sharing the stage last week with Tory Lanez, 6LACK, Wondagurl, Juice WRLD, Ski Mask The Slump God, YBN Nahmir and Lil Pump, I wanted to introduce you to some of the hottest up-and-coming artists Vancouver has to offer right now. Be sure to check that out below and don’t miss the Official Recap Video here:

WITHINROOTS

Arguably the most well-rounded artist on this years lineup was without-a-doubt Vancouver’s own WITHINROOTS. The producer/ vocalist/ instrumentalist/ rapper (the list goes on) not only brought infectious energy to the stage but was behind the keys for a number of songs performed by various artists throughout the weekend. I am only just getting a feel for WITHINROOTS’ sound and if you like what you hear below, be sure to look out for him on this side of the web in the near future.

Mcevoy

Mcevoy graced the stage and immediately proved why he is one of Vancouver’s next emerging talents. Having a more mysterious repertoire with only a few releases so far including the beautiful visuals for the recent single Go Now, it’s really only a matter of time before he captures the attention he truly deserves. As well as being fresh to my radar, check out one of his latest records in you made mistakes, i did too and watch as he makes a bigger splash as the year rolls on.

Manila Grey

Van City’s next big name in Manila Grey is quite possibly the musical duo making the most traction out of the city right now, and with good reason. With an already respectable buzz on their SoundCloud & streaming pages, it’s safe to say their performance was one of my personal favorites from the weekend. Named Soliven and Neeko, you’d best get ready to see more of these guys on our pages in the near future, and their latest hit in Timezones will give you just another example of their rapid come-up.

Brevner

Admittedly, Brevner is the newest name on my radar and I was an instant fan after seeing him at this year’s festival. With a handful of replay-worthy tracks on his SoundCloud, he is yet another artist you can expect to see on our platform in the future. Check him out here:

2Hunnit

Not only did 2Hunnit make his debut on Lyrical Lemonade a couple of weeks ago, he provided all the energy to kick-off the second day of the festival. Having said that, I’ve spoken on him in his first couple of posts on our site so make sure to check those out right here and watch the visual for one of his latest tracks with Baedu in Dragon Tales below:

DaamCP

Here is yet another Vancouver rapper who recently made his debut on LL and along with that, absolutely blew up the stage at the PNE last Sunday. Kicking off his performance with his standout BirdieBands-produced record Gatorade, the visual evidence of his performance (that you can find on his Instagram here) is all the evidence you need of his current wave and, in my opinion, potential to be the next big artist to pop-out of the city. Don’t miss-out on videos of DaamCP’s memorable performance and after doing so, check out his latest single Europa from his forthcoming FREE LIQS project:

ACDATYOUNGNI**A

East Vancouver’s own, ACDATYOUNGNI**A is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic artists coming up out of the city that has real potential to reach massive heights. Also featuring on our platform days ago, he took the stage firing off his cutthroat lyricism from a number of his songs while also showcasing why he is meant for the stage. With a whole catalog of bangers to check out on his SoundCloud, start by peeping the latest below and watch for this man to make some serious noise as the year progresses.

ILLYMINIACHI

It goes without saying that I was blessed to have Vancouver’s ILLYMINIACHI be the first artist I was ultimately put on in the city. From his recently premiered Mi Casa record and featured Q&A on the site, the anticipation for him at the festival was at an all-time high. Performing an array of tracks including the absolute slap titled Imposter that closed out his set, it’s safe to say the entire performance was a vibe and, along with several others, was one of my personal favorite moments at BREAKOUT. Watch out for this man’s stock to rise even further as the year rolls on and along with that, look for his name to be a regular occurrence on our pages from this point on.
