Baby Boy – [Slimelife Shawty]

Every day, there seems to be a new artist rising up out of the Atlanta rap scene, and although Slimelife Shawty isn’t a new name to most, he’s putting together an extremely strong case as to why he deserves the next shot at the throne. Hailing from ATL’s zone 3 which the likes of Young Thug and Ludacris call home, he is solidifying his place in the music scene and fans keep eating up every sing release he drops. Just a couple of days ago, Slime dropped off his latest video single entitled “Baby Boy”, and whether you’re familiar with him or not yet, this is the perfect all-encompassing song that’ll truly give you a look into who he is and what he’s about.

Beginning with the ATL Jacob-produced instrumental, there are some emotive synths of some sort that are eventually met by chattering hats and claps as well as smooth 808s that are perfectly pungent without being too overpowering, setting Slime up for success without impeding on his story itself. Opening up with narratives mentioning the painful events he’s had to endure, you can hear the sorrow in his voice that is accented with a feeling of strength and perseverance that is one of the most captivating parts of this release. While he is clearly in a lane of his own, his vocals remind me slightly of his fellow ATLien Lil Baby, but I do truly respect and appreciate the way Slime lays it all out on the table and gives people some incredibly revealing insight as to who he is and what he has been through.

Back in 2020, Slimelife Shawty truly started making noise with the release of his album No Slime Left Behind as well as some other hits like the “Clappers” remix featuring 42 Dugg and “Dying 2 Hit Em” with Lil Durk, setting himself up to make 2021 his biggest year yet. While he has been doing numbers on his visuals as a handful have either reached or easily surpassed the one million view mark, he is only going to continue going up from here, and “Baby Boy” is his latest case as to why you need to tune in if you haven’t already, so be sure to check it out while you watch the ShotByWolf-directed music video below as well.
